Communicable
Illness Prevention
The health and safety of our staff and guests is our top priority. FWA aims to reduce the spread of communicable illnesses (such as COVID and seasonal influenza) by implementing the following policies and practices. A specific and targeted response to an outbreak will be based upon guidance from WorkSafeBC, Interior Health Authority, and BC Centre for Disease Control.
FWA aims to reduce the transmission of illnesses by:
Lodge
- Promoting regular hand washing and hand sanitizing
- Ensuring that there are adequate hand-washing facilities located throughout the lodge
- Encouraging staff and guests to use appropriate personal hygiene practices such as coughing and sneezing into their sleeves, avoiding contact with others who are ill, and self-monitoring for symptoms of illness
- Routinely cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces, maintaining a clean environment at all times
- Routinely cleaning and disinfecting common areas such as the main room in the lodge, bathrooms, etc.
- Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing guest rooms after every use
Snowcats
- Offering hand sanitizer in every snowcat
- Routinely cleaning and disinfecting inside the snowcats
- Ensuring sufficient ventilation is possible in the snowcats (i.e. windows are in good working condition)
- Training all drivers to clean and disinfect properly
These measures are increased when there is higher risk of the transmission of an infectious illness.
Our Guests
We encourage all guests to self-monitor themselves for symptoms prior to and during their visit. We ask that guests stay home if they are feeling unwell or have recently been exposed to a communicable illness. If a guest starts to experience symptoms of a communicable illness while they are lodging or skiing with us, they will be asked to consider the health of those around them and take any necessary precautions to reduce the threat of transmission. These precautions could range from wearing a mask to isolating in their room, depending on the severity of the symptoms. We encourage all our guests to purchase travel insurance to cover any costs associated with catching an illness while travelling.
Monitoring
FWA will continue to monitor for any new updates, orders, and recommendations from BC Provincial Health Services, Interior Health, and BC Centre for Disease Control. Our Communicable Illness Prevention Plan is reviewed annually and as needed, and changes will be made as required.
